Tips to prevent and treat acne

We get so involved in our daily lives that we often forget to take care of us, until something really bothers alot. With each day passing by the environment is getting more polluted making it unsuitable for the body and to cope with this, we need to take some actions to stay healthy and feel confident of ourselves.

     The most common problem caused by this pollution remains the most neglected, that is acne, white heads, black heads, rashes, etc. and if action is not taken to treat / prevent these,it would leave dark spots on your face even after your acne gets cured. Here are some skin care tips to prevent and treat acne prone skin –The first thing you need to know to  treat or prevent skin irritations and keep the skin healthy is know your skin type.

Different skin types needs different types of skin care. Your skin care routine should be based on your skin tone, generic history, lifestyle, and so on. Try to find out which products are best suited on your skin fulfilling to the above criteria. However, there are some home remedies that we would be discussing later which suits almost all skin types. Before that let’s talk about the general skin routine you need to follow keep glowing everyday.

  • Clean your face regularly

Acnes tend to occur mostly on your face as the face remains exposed all day. Acnes can also be seen on back, shoulders, or any part of the body depending on the person. Cleanse your face twice a day with suitable facewash to clear out the dirt. You can also use face wipes if you don’t want to wash your face.

  • Choose your face cleanser according to your skin 

It is very important to pay attention to what your skin needs. Incase if you have oily skin choose a facewash that contains salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or glycerine in it. For sensetive skin you should probably go for a gentle soft cleanser with lactic acid, glycerine for hydration, carefully check all the ingredients in the facewash if you’re allergic to something then discard it go for some other options.

  • Avoid exfoliating your skin too much

Do not exfoliate or scrub more than 3 times a week. This will cause inflammation, redness, irritations on your skin. 

  • Keep your skin moisturised

Moisturising your skin is an important step towards having a healthy skin. Moisturizer keeps your skin hydrated which re-balances the oil secretion from the sebaceous glands, this helps to improve the healing and control acnes. It is advisable to use a light weight moisturizer otherwise the glands tends to over secrete oil.

  • Avoid applying make-up on skin while you’re working out

When you workout you tend to sweat a lot more than normal. If you put on make-up while working out, the sweat pores gets clogged, this traps the debris and bacteria making it suitable for acne bumps.

  • Always wash your skin post-workout

Always wash your face after workout probably take a small bath to wash off the sweat, use cleanser to remove excess oil and clean the skin pores.

  • Change your face towel regularly

To avoid pimples, skin rashes, acne, etc. you should always use clean soft cloth to wipe off the excess water after washing your face. If you continue using one for days the dirt in the threads will cause more pimples to your skin. Switch two three towels a week .

  • Start eating healthy

Leafy green vegetables and other bright colored fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants and nutrients which dampens the inflammation and improves skin quality. Avoid eating too much oily food and try to eat light home made food to keep the body cool and hydrated.

  • Have a cup of tea daily

Tea is full of antioxidants, and can reduce acne upto 25%, it also keeps you fresh, helps you concentrate on your work and so on. In a study it is seen that the spearmint tea is best for treating acne and skin problems. It is anti inflammatory and helps in the reduction of testosterone levels. You can also have green tea, black tea, etc if you don’t have access to spearmint tea.

  • Use clean sheets and pillow covers

You should change your bed sheets and pillow covers twice a week. Dirt and dust sticks to fabrics which in turn causes skin rashes.

  • Use a light sunscreen

While going out in the daytime, always use a sunscreen to protect your skin from the sunrays and pollution. Sunscreens comes in various forms like sungels, creams, powders, etc. Choose the type according to your skin and use a light weight sunscreen so to avoid the clogging of pores. 

  • Clean your mobile phone and headphones regularly

 Regularly sanitize your phones and headphones as the moisture and sweat gets trapped in. These further decompose to form bacteria and yeast and multiply. Wipe off your phone screens and Headphones with alcohol based sanitizers.

             Apart from all these, there are some home remedies that we follow to get rid of acne, skin rashes or for regular skin care are-

  • Put some ice cubes on the swelling area upto twenty to thirty seconds to reduce inflammation and help the skin relax,
  •  Aloevera is very reputed as a skin care ingredient as it keeps the skin hydrated and reduces redness, 
  • Prepare a mask with honey and cinnamon and apply it atleast once a week to get better results. 
  • Try to drink green tea once a day to keep the metabolism good and reduce skin rashes. 
  • Have a proper hair care to avoid scalp infections, any problem regarding your scalp will directly affect your facial skin causing acnes, rashes, etc. 

Do not put alcohol or toothpaste or some other chemicals on affected area. In case you face severe acne or skin infections, it is best you consult a doctor and get yourself treated as soon as possible.
